Better Jobs Ontario :

About
Better Jobs Ontario is a provincial initiative aimed at enhancing job opportunities and improving the quality of work across the province. It encompasses various policies, programs, and efforts designed to support workers, promote fair labour practices, and stimulate economic growth. If you have been unemployed for six months or more and belong to a low-income household, you may benefit from these changes. To align with these enhancements, the program has been renamed Better Jobs Ontario (formerly Second Career).
Overview
Better Jobs Ontario offers eligible applicants:
- Skills training for in-demand jobs
- Financial support
You can apply for up to $28,000 to cover expenses including:
- Tuition
- Books
- Other instructional costs (student fees, supplies, electronic devices)
- Transportation
- Basic living allowance (up to $500 per week)
Additional funding may be available for:
- Childcare
- Disability-related supports
- Living away from home
- Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) and/or language training
Length of Training Programs
Better Jobs Ontario aims to help you re-enter the workforce quickly. Therefore, the program focuses on training programs that take 52 weeks or less to complete, including micro-credential programs.
Eligibility
You may qualify for Better Jobs Ontario if you:
- Have been laid off and are not currently working, or are working a temporary job to cover costs
- Have been unemployed for six months or longer and are part of a low-income household
You can still apply if you receive:
- Employment Insurance (EI)
- Ontario Works (OW)
- Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)
Applying to Better Jobs Ontario
Our college collaborates with Provision Employment Consultant, a specialized agency facilitating connections between employers and job seekers. Director Ms. Hager Bekursion from Provision Employment Services assists eligible students in accessing programs such as Better Jobs Ontario and other government grants. Hager provides independent employment services, and our college engages her when students self-report potential eligibility for the Better Jobs Ontario program.
If Hager determines that you meet the eligibility criteria for Better Jobs Ontario and chooses to mentor you through the application process, there are no fees for her assistance with application preparation.

- Desired skills for training and potential training providers
The level of support you receive is based on individual needs and available funding. Financial needs assessments will require information such as household income before taxes and anticipated training costs.
